Haramichio Museum
Haramichio Museum permanently exhibits the works of the late painter Michio Hara whose unique paintings and poems with the themes of “mother’s kindness” and “hometown warmth” gained the popularity. The museum is located by Kimita Onsen Mori no Izumi, where the beautiful view of Kimita’s impressive mountains and rivers are visible from the hall and terrace.
About HARAMICHIO
“Everyone lives yearning for a mother’s warmth and kindness”
HARAMICHIO
Real name: Mitsuo Kajihara (June 11, 1928 – May 12, 2021)
HARAMICHIO had cerebral palsy which limited his mobility. From the age of 40, he began to devote himself to writing poetry and producing paintings depicting “motherhood.” Over the years he has created various beautiful poetry and paintings depicting tender themes such as “mother and child” and “warmth of home.” He also wrote several essays on a variety of topics, and continued his creative endeavors with unwavering strength until his later years. In 1995, he was drawn to Kimitacho, Miyoshi City (then known as Kimitacho, Futami District), and in 2014, he decided to leave Ushita to reside here. HARAMICHIO loved the land of Kimita very much, and described that here he was able to hear “the sound of mother, earth, and soul.”
